The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have confirmed its intention to deploy the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology throughout the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The 2021 edition of the TotalEnegies Africa Cup of Nations tournament will be played from 9 January to 6 February 2022 in Cameroon.
The six selected venues for the tournament have experimented the Video Assistant Referee system during the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
This means all 52 games will have the VAR used to support on-field match officials in their decision-making in real-time.
A total of 63 match officials have been selected to officiate at the tournament.
The list is made up 24 referees, 31 assistant and eight video assistant referees (VARs) from 36 countries.
Also on the list are two referees drawn from the CONCACAF region, the governing body of North and Central Americas and the Caribbean.
