Ghana’s Olympics dream started on a good note after Sulemanu Tetteh recorded a win in his first Tokyo 2020 boxing event.
The Black Bombers captain beat Dominican Republic’s Rodrigo Marte by split decision in the flyweight division to put Ghana in Round of 16.
Three of the judges ruled in favour of the Black Bomber captain who started slowly but gradually warmed himself into the fight.
Sulemanu who is now one step closer to the medal zone will fight Veitia Yosbany of Cuba in the 16th stage on Saturday 31st of July.
Speaking after the fight, he said “I told my family and friends, am not coming back empty-handed and that stimulated me to go all out to get the first victory for Ghana.”
Meanwhile, the two other Ghanaian boxers on Wednesday, July 28 will do battle as Samuel Takyi faces Jean Carlos Pachito Caicedo of Ecuador whereas Shakul Samed will clash with Malkan Bayram of Turkey.
