Steve Cooper has disclosed that Swansea City will hold talks with Andre Ayew once the current campaign comes to an end.
Ayew who has been a mainstay in Steve Cooper’s side has one year left to run on his contract. His form this season have generated interest from clubs in the Premier League and overseas.
Due to that, the Welsh club wants to tie the Ghana international attacker down to ward off interest.
Steve Cooper says he’ll hold discussions with the attacker in due course, although he believes the frontman’s focus is firmly on Reading as Swansea look to secure a play-off place on the final day of the regular season this week.
Swansea play as guest to Reading at the Madejski Stadium at 7:30pm on tonight.
“I’m sure we’ll have that conversation again, but now it’s just about Wednesday, ” he said.
“He’s fully focused on that and I’m fully focused on that. Let’s not let any thoughts interfere with getting it right on Wednesday.”
Ayew has been a shining light under Cooper, scoring 17 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions since returning from a season-long loan spell with Fenerbahce.
Head coach Cooper admits he’s been fortunate to work with the man who returned to South Wales from West Ham in January 2018.
“Andre’s been really great hasn’t he. You’ve all seen him on the pitch and the contribution he’s made and the energy levels that he gives. He leads by example when he’s playing and when he’s training.
“He’s a very good person and a really good professional. It’s been brilliant to see how a top player operates, so I can’t speak highly enough of him. I just hope he does the business again on Wednesday.”
