Rio Ferdinand has advised Manchester United to make a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey this summer.
The United legend wants the Red Devils to jump ahead of suitors and sign the Ghana international to provide shield to their midfield.
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is building a squad that can return Manchester United to the pinnacle of world football again and Ferdinand believes Partey will be a good fit for the Manchester club.
“I’d maybe go get Partey from Atletico Madrid or Ndidi from Leicester,” Ferdinand said on The Beautiful Game podcast .
“I like Saul Niguez. He’s a very, very good player in midfield.”
Thomas Partey has continued to attract interest due to some exceptional performances for Diego Simeone’s side this season, featuring 35 times across all competitions to help Atletico reach the Champions League quarter-finals.
He was last week in the news after his father Jacob Partey said he has been in talks with Arsenal.
“I called my son after hearing the rumours and he told me that the rumours are true,” said Jacob Partey. “He told me they are holding talks between him and Arsenal. It all depends on the offer Atletico are demanding.
“If he goes to Arsenal, fine, they have a lot of supporters in Ghana. I will be happy if he decides to move to Arsenal. What they are discussing now is how Atletico will release him.”
But JJ Sports, who represent the 26-year-old, have issued a denial and are quoted as telling Marca: “It’s totally untrue.”
