Ex-Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey has disclosed why he has not spoken to his former teammate and current Black Stars coach CK Akonnor for over 7 years now.
There were reports that the pair’s relationship was on rocks despite working together as players and coaches.
Odartey Lamptey speaking to Joy Sports said he has no issue with Akonnor but they have not spoken for a long time because he won’t call him his friend.
He said though they are in several social media groups together, they do not chat but was quick to say he would support CK Akonnor to succeed as Black Stars coach.
“I don’t have any problem with CK Akonnor but we have not had a conversation for about 7 years now. I think we have all moved on as persons, I have not placed a personal call to congratulate him on Black Stars job but we are all on several social media pages. We have so many type of friends, you can have a friend at work but they may not be people you share secretes with, I have my own friends and we have daily conversations so I have no issue with him”.
Odartey Lamptey was Akonnor’s assistant at Eleven Wise in 2010 but they have not worked together since getting sacked by then Ghana Premier League side.
Both coaches took the Ghana Premier League by storm with their style of dressing.
They always appeared for games in suits which was novel in Ghana.
Akonnor was confirmed Black Stars head coach early this month as replacement for Kwesi Appiah whose contract was not renewed.
Odartey currently runs his Glo Lamp Soccer Academy as the head coach.
