Asante Kotoko and their head coach Mariano Barreto have mutually ended their relationship ahead of the new Ghana Premier League season.
Barreto, 64, signed a one-and-half-year contract with the Porcupine Warriors in March after Maxwell Konadu was sacked.
He was unveiled midway in the 2020/21 football season but failed to guide Kotoko to win the Ghana Premier League title and could only help them reach the quarterfinals of the FA Cup last season.
He recently started a media war with the club’s chief executive officer Nana Yaw Amponsah and revealed that the club lacks basic infrastructure like washrooms for players and coaches as well offices.
These didn’t go down well with the club and after several consultations, the two parties have agreed to end the marriage.
It is understood WAFA head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum is expected to take over as the new coach of the Porcupines ahead of the 2021/22 season.
He is expected to sign a three-year deal with the club.
