The Champions League makes its long awaited return today, August 7 following an almost five month hiatus.
The UEFA elite club competition was interrupted when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down live sports globally in March, leading many to believe a top European team would not be crowned for the 2019-20 season.
The competition format has been amended for the resumption to finalize the tournament once the remaining Round of 16 matches have been completed.
The eight teams that progress to the next round round will play in a new knockout format that features four one-off quarter finals matches. These matches will take place August 12-15.
The winners will progress to the semi-finals, scheduled for August 18 & 19, and the final will take place on August 23rd to crown the Champions League winner of the 2019-20 season.
Two games will come off today as Manchester City who hold a 1-0 advantage before the Covid-19 break play Real Madrid today at the Etihad Stadium at 7: 00 pm.
Juventus will also be seeking to over a 1-0 deficit as they host Lyon at the Allianz Stadium at 7:00pm.
On Saturday, Bayern Munich who have one leg in the quarter-final following their 3-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge will be looking to finish the job at the Allianz Arena
Barcelona and Napoli will lock horns at Camp Nou. Napoli in the first leg held the Spanish club to a 1-1 draw at 7:00pm.
