Ghana Football Association has launched a charm offensive aimed at Arsenal star Eddie Nketiah to play for the country at international level.

The Arsenal forward qualifies for the African nation through both of his parents, but has served England at youth level having been born in London.

Nketiah has shot to prominence this year with some impressive displays for The Gunners after returning from a loan spell at Leeds.

Since his return he has been a regular performer under Mikel Arteta, scoring four times in 17 appearances, and came off the bench in Saturday’s FA Cup final win over Chelsea.

After the match Nketiah tweeted a picture of him and his teammates celebrating with the trophy, captioned: “Champions.”

His tweet provided Ghana’s FA with the perfect opportunity to then launch their own charm offensive.

They retweeted the striker’s post, writing: “Congratulations @EddieNketiah9.”

The move is a hopeful one from Ghana, particularly considering Nketiah has been capped at every level for England from under-18 to under-21.

In fact at U21 level Nketiah has been producing some impressive form, netting eight goals in as many appearances.

The 21-year-old has already turned down an approach from Ghana striker Kwesi Appiah once before, but he can officially declare for either nation at any point up until making his senior international debut.

Given his appearances in the youth set-up, England’s FA will no doubt be under the assumption Nketiah will reserve himself for them.

Unlike Ghana though, The Gunners talent does face a battle to force his way into Gareth Southgate’s squad on a consistent basis.

As it stands the likes of Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling and Tammy Abraham are filling the forward slots in the Three Lions side.

In addition, Nketiah is also arguably behind Man Utd’s Mason Greenwood in the pecking order.
