Black Stars head coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor is optimistic of his outfit coming out victorious in this evening’s clash against Cote d’Ivoire.
The Black Stars will play the Elephants of Ivory Coast on Saturday, June 12, at the Cape Coast stadium as the two teams continue their preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September.
Akonnor and his charges will be hoping to return to winning ways after defeat to Morocco last Tuesday.
Ghana lost 1-0 to Morocco in their first game on Tuesday while Ivory Coast defeated Burkina Faso 2-1 in a similar exercise.
Speaking prior to the showdown, Akonnor said he will be mapping up a strategy to aid his side beat the AFCON 2015 winners.
“Today, we will have a meeting to discuss the match. What we did right and what went wrong and we look forward to the Ivory Coast match and going to that game, we have to do video analysis and see how best we can play and of course outsmart them and win the match. We need to win and that is what we are concerned about.”
Meanwhile, Cote d’Ivoire have arrived in Ghana ahead of the international friendly.
The 2015 AFCON winners will be hoping to maintain their winning streak against Ghana.
Ivory Coast are currently on a run of three straight victories and unbeaten in five consecutive encounters against the Black Stars.
They have recorded four wins and a draw in the process and are seeking to maintain the winning streak.
Their last meeting came in 2015, when Ivory Coast defeated Ghana 9-8 on penalties to clinch the Africa Cup of Nations title.
Senegalese referee Douada Gueye has been appointed to officiate tonight’s clash.
The 37 year old will be assisted by compatriots Serigne Cheick Toure (Assistant I) and Ngom Amadou (Assistant II).
Ghana’s Latif Adaari will serve as the fourth official.
The game is scheduled for 17:00 kick off.
