Gunshots and violence have characterised the voter registration in the Oti region in the ongoing final phase of the exercise.
This was after at least 17 people were arrested on suspicions of being Togolese.
An eyewitness said they people who were arrested were first greeted in French and after they responded they were arrested by some individuals claiming to be National Security Operatives.
“Two people came saying that they are National Security operatives, the gathered about 17 of the people telling them that they are not Ghanaians so they are taking them away. I know their villages and some of them are even my former students.”
“They call them and Bonju and they responded and after they responded they said they are from Togo meanwhile we tach French in Ghana, I can speak French.”
But Minister for Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the arrest will be investigated.
According to him, the story being aired by the media needs further investigation to ascertain the real issues for the arrest.
“It is something need to be looked into and investigated, we know that as a matter of policy you don’t that of by believing or disbelieving everything that is aired on media platforms, …to ensure that it is properly investigated.”
