President Akufo-Addo says his government inherited a weak economy which could never have catered for all the interventions they put in place during this COVID-19 era.
The President speaking on Sun Rise FM in Koforidua said the government has made huge efforts in improving the weak economy they inherited some 3-years ago from the NDC government.
This he says was possible for them to make some interventions like free water, reduction of electricity prices, given out stimulus packages among others.
“A good government is a government that when things become difficult for his people they will step in because of good policy and efficient management to be able to protect the people and that is what we have been able to do. If our economy had not been strengthen in the few years before the pandemic broke out, these measures which are very expensive would have been impossible to provide free water, electricity, meals, set up insurance for health workers. All of these are indications of the strength of the Ghanaian economy before the pandemic and this was built up in a short period in office. The economy we inherited could never have paid for these things and we want to continue on that trend.”
When COVID-19 surfaced and Ghana went into lock down, the government made an intervention of delivering free meals to Ghanaians.
They also gave out some stimulus packages to private enterprises and added free water and a subsidiary on electricity.
The government has now extended the COVID-19 interventions of free water and electricity by another 3 months.
The President ending his interview asked Ghanaians to give him another term so he improves their lives, he promised to even do better when given another opportunity.
