Development Activist, Dr K. Y Amoako, has commended the Speaker of Parliament for his continued efforts to engage with Civil Society Organisations and think-tanks regularly in a bid to ensure more citizen participation in the work of Parliament.
Dr Amoako was speaking at a meeting with the Speaker and members of the Leadership of the House held in Parliament yesterday.
Discussions focused on areas of our democracy that need to be revamped, among many others.
Emphasis was placed on the need for a reform of the 1992 Constitution, local government reform and a general improvement in public finance management.
Citizen engagement and their participation in the Parliamentary process is one of the key objectives of the 8th Parliament.
This is to help remove some of the myths and misconceptions about the work and institution of Parliament and to give citizens a sense of ownership of the Legislature.
