Several weeks after the police administration offered presidential candidates in the upcoming general elections the chance to select their own police security details, none of them has yet taken up the offer.
The police, as part of efforts to help organise a peaceful decided to provide security personnel of the various political parties’ choosing for flagbearers and their running mates.
But the Director of Operations of the Police, Chief Superintenedent Dr Benjamin Agbozo, has stated that this same policy was implemented in 2012 around October so it was shocking that the political parties were not accessing it when the IGP has brought it forward.
According to him, the police administration would have no choice but to impose the security detail on the flagbearers who will fail to take advantage of the security arrangement being offered by end of May.
In a reaction, Campaign manager of the NPP, Peter Mac Manu said the party was still considering the offer and would respond by end of May.
