Former President and flagbearer for the NDC, John Mahama says he has realised that it is not all about infrastructural development.
Speaking on one of the major policy reforms he will introduce to help the many unemployed youths, he said youth employment and entrepreneurship are some of the things we need to take seriously as a country.
According to him, his next administration will place more focus on youth employment and entrepreneurship.
He said most of the needed skills are lacking in our youth and when he visits the communities he realised that the youth are willing to work but do not have the skills.
He proposes that there should be a system that allows the young ones who are not in the technical university to learn for a certificate when the schools are on vacation.
This he believes will help equip the youth with the needed skills for gainful employment.
On entrepreneurship, he said one of the things he will work on is supporting more youth to start their own businesses especially those with the entrepreneurial spirit.
Citing some examples of the NDC’s investment in entrepreneurship, John Mahama said some of the youth they supported are making more money than their colleagues they completed with.
He admitted that even though infrastructure development is key because it gives access to healthcare, schools and other social amenities, he has realised that it is not all about infrastructure.
John Mahama said his next administration will therefore invest more in the youth and their skills development.
