Workers of La Palm Royal Beach Hotel demonstrate over unpaid salaries

Workers of the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel are demonstrating over unpaid salaries and unfavourable working conditions.

According to them, they have not been paid their June salaries in addition to some back pay from 2019 May.

This they say this making it difficult for them to cater for their families.

Some have also attributed the situation to bad management at the hotel.

“I have been cheated and the hotel is owing me, we are working and we have kids at home this is really sad. 2019 have not received my pay. We are not even able to pay our insurance companies where is the money

“Your employees cannot go 8 months without back pay, we know this pandemic has caused us too but we were suffering even way back due to lack of prudent management. You haven’t paid us back pay 8 months and …”

Principal Industrial Relations Officer for Industrial Workers Union Odelia Sowu who passed by advised the workers to go back to their post as they continue to engage on their behalf.

“We’ve started a very long… in the area of our negotiation for the June salary and we appreciate the fact that today being the 27th of July we have not yet received our June salary we want to acknowledge the fact that us employees you are also having some challenges. In view of this, we have taken a second look at the overall negotiation process the good news is that approval has been given for the payment of the 50% what is outstanding now is the July salary so we will also open up discussion on so kindly go back to your respective jobs and then we will see the way forward.

But the workers do not listen and are still protesting.
