The Public Relations Officer(PRO) of the University of Professional Studies Accra, (UPSA), J.S.K Agbenyo has described the recent attacks on the credibility of its newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey as an unproductive venture which must not be given attention.
A feature dubbed “Reflection: Prof Amartey’s appointment as Vice Chancellor of UPSA” by Dr. Prosper Yao Tsikata and Dr. A. Kobla Dotse Director, questioned the qualifications of the new Vice Chancellor, describing his selection as “the most outrageous bastardization of Ghana’s University education since independence”.
It also suggested that the members of the University Council did not do due diligence in the appointment of the Vice Chancellor and must be sacked.
But the PRO in an interview with Primenewsghana.com said, the University is unperturbed by all the allegations and issues raised about Prof. Amartey adding that, they believe in their credible University Council and certain they made the right choice.
“We would stand by the choice of our university council and not waste our time on chasing unproductive ventures that would interfere in our efforts in providing the best education to our students”, he stated.
He also disclosed that, the university is planning a very colourful induction ceremony for the new Vice Chancellor and would not pay attention to trivial issues.
According to Mr. Agbenyo, the attacks on the new Vice Chancellor are very personal and individual which the University would not be associated with.
“We are focused on providing quality education to all and train capable individuals that would transform the country at various sectors, “he added.
The new Vice Chancellor he said, is qualified and capable of helping the University achieve its goals and objectives and they would rally behind him.
Prof. Amartey would take over the mantle from the current Vice Chancellor Prof. Joshua Alabi whose tenure would end in December.
