Finance Minister, Ken Ofori- Atta has indicated that the NPP government within its first 11 months have turned the economy of the country around in a positive direction.

Addressing Parliament in the reading of the 2018 budget, Wednesday, the Finance Minister stated that the Akufo- Addo government has remained committed to employing strategies to fix the economy. He added that their strategies are yielding results and bringing relief to Ghanaians, citing the example of Parents of Free SHS beneficiaries and nursing trainees who now receive their allowances.

The theme for the 2018 budget as revealed by Mr. Ofori-Atta is “Putting Ghana back to work”, thus energizing the entrepreneurial spirit in citizens and providing more opportunities for Ghanaians to ensure higher productivity.

The Minister shed light on government’s achievements over the year, claiming that it has achieved “what seemed impossible to achieve in 8 years”.

“We have ensured a reliable electricity supply, confidence in the economy, Free SHS, reduced inflation, maintained the stability of the cedi against the dollar, successfully completed IMF-ECF program, and achieved positive development in oil and gas.”, he said.

“In a few months into government, I am pleased to announce that the free SHS has been successfully implemented to ensure equal opportunity for students, the National digital property address system has been put in place, teachers and nurses allowance has been restored, we have also restored macroeconomic stability, thus sowing the seeds for economic growth.”,he added.

Mr. Ofori Atta further stated that the 2018 budget will continue to offer economic relief to Ghanaians, create jobs and reduce electricity tariffs.
