The St James’ Seminary and Senior High School (SHS) in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region has emerged as the best Senior High School in Ghana after topping in the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).

This is the fifth time in a row that the school has topped the WASSCE for school candidates in the country.

The ranking was done by the Ministry of Education according to the performance of senior schools in the WASSCE.

A total of 672 SHS were ranked, covering a period of four years (between 2013 and 2017).

Students of St James’ Seminary and SHS had an average performance of 98.8 per cent during the said period.

ST. Francis Xavier in the Upper West Region came second with a pass percentage of 94.97.

Opoku Ware School (OWASS) in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region came third with an average of 88.2 per cent.

The biggest shock, however, is that popular schools like Mfantsipim School (14), Presbyterian Boys SHS, Legon (15), Prempeh College (17) and Pope John SHS (19) were not in the top 10.

Other popular schools like Bishop Herman, Achimota, Archbishop Porter Girls, Mfantsiman Girls and St Thomas Aquinas, placed 26th, 29th, 32nd, 39th, 45th respectively.

Here are the top 20 schools
