Senegal has topped the recovery rate for the deadly Covid-19 in Africa and 3rd in the World.
Covid-19 cases in the world nears 3 million, this has crippled most economies in the world especially African countries.
But how is Senegal managing its Covid-19 cases to be in the top countries with good recovery rate, in a report by Aljazeera Senegal is relying on local scientists and engineers to tackle the pandemic head-on.
From their Ebola exeprience Senegal is making great strides in fighting the pandemic.
The country is testing everyone with or without symptoms of the virus. Researchers have developed a 1 dollar diagnostic kit original made to test for Dengue fever.
Citizens are made to drop saliva or blood on the test kit and wait for the result.
Researcher Amadou Alpha Sall of the Institute Pasteur said, “they is no need for a highly equipped lab, and it is a simple test that can be done anywhere, the idea to rapidly-produce two to four million kits not just for us but for African countries so that we can detect and isolate patients quickly.”
The report also indicate that the patients are administered chloroquine.
With only 50 ventilators in the country for the Senegal’s population of 60 million people, engineers are using 3D printing machines to produce more.
It would have cost the country 16, 000 dollars to import new ventilators but the work from the local engineers will cost 60 dollars
Currently Senegal has only two deaths from the virus.
