Governance expert, Professor Baffour Agyeman Duah says prayers alone cannot work without practical measures to combat Covid-19 outbreak in the country.

Professor Baffour Agyemang Duah’s comment comes after President Akufo-Addo today held a Breakfast Prayer Meeting at the Jubilee House with Christian Religious Leaders in Ghana in the wake of recorded Covid-19 cases in the country.

In a radio interview monitored by primenewsghana.com today, Professor Baffour Agyeman Duah who doubles as former United Nations Advisor, said the measures announced by President Akufo-Addo must be revisited

”Am not surprised Ghanaians are very religious so in cases like this, I will not be surprised if we begin to resort to prayers. Hadn’t said that, its equally important that we take practical measures because after all, the good book tells us that God helps those that help themselves. Prayers alone cannot be the solution .So I think the measures announced by the government last week has to be revisited and if we are witnessing an increased number of cases as was mentioned then I think we are approaching a point where radical measures should be taken.”

However, the President in his address today stated that Ghana has recorded two more of the deadly COVID-19 disease bringing the total number of cases to nine.

President Akufo-Addo said with the nine confirmed cases of infections, Ghana might count itself lucky as one of the countries least hit by the deadly Coronavirus.

In this regard, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and National Integration, Ms Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey yesterday announced that the  COVID-19 disease has since the outbreak killed a total of three Ghanaians in Europe.

The Minister explained two Ghanaians died in Italy whilst the other died in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The coronavirus pandemic has now infected more than 200,000 people around the globe after doubling in less than two weeks.

Countries including China, Italy, Iran, Spain and Germany have suffered the highest number of infections.
