President Akufo-Addo has cut sod for a 400-bed Maternity and a 101-bed Urology centre at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
In a short ceremony at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on August 11, 2020, President Akufo-Addo said this in fulfilment of the promise he made to the management of Korle Bu when he visited the place in 2018 and realised there was a need for a new maternity block.
“My recent visit to Korle Bu when I commissioned the Intensive Care Unit of the National Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Centre, I was struck by the poor state of the maternity ward and promised to build a new one and today’s event is in fulfilment of that. Once completed it will contribute to addressing the persistent challenges of maternal issues in Ghana”
The project will be a 12 storey facility which is set to cause about 145 million Euros and expected to be completed in about thirty months.
This is to replace the old maternity building located at Korle Bu which is dilapidated.
At the function was the Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu and the Chief Executive Officer Dr Daniel Asare.
