Member of Parliament for Kumbungu in the Northern region, Ras Mubarak has called on the leadership of the house to summon anti-corruption crusader Sydney Casely Hayford before the Privileges Committee of Parliament to justify some allegations he has made against the house.

The member of pressure group Occupy Ghana is reported to have said at summit on “The Economic and Political Rise of Africa” that Ghana would have been better off without Parliament and if given the chance he will “break down” the law-making house and turn it into a tourist site adding the lawmakers in Ghana make “stupid decisions.”

Speaking on the floor of Parliament today, the Kumbungu lawmaker said Mr Casely Hayford’s  comments constitutes an attack on the integrity of all MPs, past, and present, and bothers on promoting hatred and vandalism against the house when he talks about breaking down Parliament. He stressed legislators have a duty to defend the honour the integrity of this House.

He added parliamentarians must not watch people abuse past and present MPs “who without an iota of doubt have and are working assiduously for the smooth running of the nation.”

Ras Mubarak further argued that if Casely-Hayford’s claims are swept under the carpet, it will set a very bad example and create more room for people to doubt the reputation of members of this house.

In the intervening time, the First Deputy Speaker, Joe Osei Owusu who chaired the session said he has referred the matter to the leadership of the House for consideration.
