Property owners whose wiring installations are 10 years old would have to overhaul them or risk their facilities being closed down.
According to a Lead Officer of the Certified Wiring programme of the Energy Commission, Solomon Sarpong, the Commission in The Energy Commission in partnership with the Ghana National Fire Service and the National Insurance Commission will, from the beginning of 2017, be undertaking an audit of the state of wiring systems of all hotels and commercial buildings across the country and give directives to owners.
Facilities which fail to comply with the directive will be considered unsafe for human habitation and closed down, he warned.
Speaking in Kumasi at a ceremony to present certificates to about 300 electricians who successfully undertook a training course of the Commission, Mr Sarpong said, the move was part of measures to curb rampant fires at such facilities
