NDC gurus storm court to support Dr Opuni

Top NDC gurus  today March 26, 2018, stormed the High Court in Accra to sympathize with the former Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD, Dr Opuni, who is facing over 27 counts of offences amounting to GHs217,345,289.

The top officials of the opposition NDC who are in court to support Dr Opuni include former Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, former Attorney General, Marietta Brew Oppong, Sherry Aryeetey, Elizabeth Agyare, Joyce Bawa Mogtari and Felix Ofosu Kwakye.

The Former chief executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board together with Businessman Seidu Agongo and Agricult Ghana Limited were charged with 27 counts of offences including defrauding the state by false pretences and causing financial loss to the state.

Dr Stephen Opuni was also charged with three counts of money laundering contrary to the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2008.

Seidu Agongo and Agricult Ghana Limited have on the same charge sheet been charged with selling misbranded fertilizer contrary to section 114(1)(b) of the Plants and Fertilizer Act 2010(Act 803) and selling adulterated fertilizer.

A recent investigative report compiled by COCOBOD revealed that a contract was signed by Dr Opuni to approve the sale of harmful fertilisers produced by Agricult at a cost of about $19 million in March 2014.

Heavy security at court as Dr Opuni's trial begins today

Meanwhile, Security at the court premises in Accra has been tightened following the commencement of the Dr Opuni trial today.
