Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu is pleading with the striking staff of the Ankaful psychiatric hospital to give their Medical Director, whom they are protesting against, a second chance to prove himself.
His plea was made in a stakeholder meeting held Tuesday, November 28, which is aimed at resolving the impasse between the staff of the hospital and the Medical Director, Dr. Eugene Dordoye.
Staff at the Ankaful psychiatric hospital began a sit-down strike Thursday, November 23, 2017, to express their discontent over the Health Ministry’s refusal to dismiss Dr. Dordoye despite the various accusations leveled against him.
The Medical director who has been accused of corruption, human rights abuse, conflict of interest, misappropriation of the funds and resources among others, has however rendered a letter of apology to the staff, admitting that he went overboard in his actions.
“I admit I sometimes went overboard either carrying out some of these changes or teaching clinicians about the patient’s conditions during a review of the patients which sometimes to them were very embarrassing.
“I apologize unreservedly to all staff at Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital who have been hurt by my approach, the CEO, MHA, Central Regional Minister, Health Minister and all others affected…” he said.
The staff of the hospital who are in talks with the Ministry of health over how to resolve the impasse are yet to respond to his plea to give the Medical Director a second chance.
