Bright Simons of Imani Africa is asking the government to provide reasons for easing the Covid-19 restriction.

Bright Simons on Joy FM’s ‘NewsFile’ said there is no scientific evidence why government has decided to ease the restrictions.

According to him, the detailed documents on why the decision to ease should be available as other countries are doing.

“The nature of accountability in political office is that you go out of your way to assure people that you are doing so by providing transparency so if indeed you are working on models publish them so people can read them.”

He stated that the situation where is also oral statements are not helping because it makes it difficult to hold the government by the words.

He believes if the scientific data is published with reasons to easing the restrictions the government could be hold accountable.

Bright Simons also questioned the policy triggers of government.

“It’s becoming clear that the anchors of policy the triggers for certain decisions are not very clear so we don’t know for instance whether we looking at the particular infectivity ratio or a particular dynamic. So it has become obvious that the interminable postponements were no longer tenable because it is not clear at what stage you will start to loosen up restrictions and you couldn’t communicate to people what the yardstick for those decisions would be. It has become apparent for a while now that we are relying largely on gut instincts…”
