Government is expected to employ over 3,000 graduates to generate digital addresses for houses across the country following the launch of the National Digital Post Address System (NDPAS).

The move to employ the graduates is to enable every Ghanaian gain access to their new addresses made available through the digital address system.

Economic and Technical Adviser to the Vice President, Dr Gideon Boako responding to allegations by the opposition NDC that the National Digital Property Address System was “useless and limited to few Ghanaians” said that government has made provision to address the challenge.

“We all agree that without the smartphone one can’t access the GPS. It is also an established fact that not every Ghanaian has a smartphone. It was for this reason that, as part of the cost, government has allocated funds for the procurement of about 3,000 smartphones for the Ghana Post so that, graduates from all institutions would be recruited in the generation of digital addresses”. Mr. Boako said in an interview.

“They will be responsible for generating digital addresses for all houses without smartphones. Afterward, the addresses are going to be on plates and pasted in front of every house in this country.”, Mr. Boako revealed.

Following the lack of an efficient addressing system, President Nana Akufo Addo launched the Ghana Post GPS, a National Digital Property Address System, in October 2017 to make it easier to find locations in the country and boost service delivery.

It was designed by Vokacom, a Ghanaian information technology firm which partnered the Ghana Post Company Limited and the National Technology Agency (NITA) to host the data.

The system is location-based and is expected to offer an effective means of providing an address to every location and place in the country, including undeveloped parcels of land, using an information technology application.

The app will generate a unique code for every property or location in Ghana with the use of the Global Positioning System (GPS) technology.
