Minister of Health, Kweku Agyeman-Manu has hinted that all government hospitals will soon operate a paperless and cashless system to improve the quality of healthcare delivery in the country.

According to Kweku Agyeman-Manu, this will help reduce the stress associated with the manual folder system being used currently by the hospitals.

The Minister made this known when he addressed students of Bawku Presbyterian Nurses and Midwifery College during his three-day working visit to the Upper East Region.

“The Ministry of Health itself is trying to introduce paperless hospitals and cashless hospitals, we have been to 29 hospitals in the Central Region already in the pilot phase, so when you go there for OPD nobody will go and bring a folder, they will just register you on the system and they will ask you to go to the consortium room, from there if you go to the Lab the technician will send the result to the doctor for prescription.”

He added that the same will be done for accounts, and patients will either pay through banks or electronic payments before being attended to.

Speaking to the issue of delay payment of nurses trainee allowance, the Minister assured the students that the Health Ministry will by the close of this week receive funds to pay the students their two months allowances.

“But we have sorted it out with them and by the end of this week, Controller and Accountant General will start releasing monies for us to do what we should do, the arrangement is that we are going to pay two months for both the old one and the new one at the same time.”
