Yearn for greater heights, dream big and strive to be the best wherever you may find yourself, challenge yourselves as the next generation of leaders and take advantage of what you have learnt  in a productive way than waiting for government to find them jobs.

That is the advice of the Rector of the Rector of Ghana Institute of Journalism, Dr Wilberforce S. Dzisah to students who graduated from the school on Friday.

Speaking at the event under the theme “Communication as a tool for Sustaining the Oil and Gas Industry”, he noted the graduates have a responsibility and the expertise to play a critical role in the development of industry, including oil and gas.

It is imperative upon them to apply to “apply effective communication tools to deal with essential developmental issues, the country’s oil and gas industry could become a model of efficiency for others to emulate,” he added.

Dr Dzisah observed the sustenance of the oil and gas industry would depend on the application of Information and Communication Technologies, and that there was the need to enhance all important communication channels to deal with both the upstream and downstream workers in the industry.

He noted the theme was timely due to the recent ruling by the International Tribunal of the Law of the Sea which had secured the country’s hydrocarbon resources, announcing that  as part of the institute’s strategic agenda, it had initiated the process of adding new programmes-Integrated Development Studies and Communication and Marketing and Advertising Communication to the undergraduate courses.

The Rector said management had submitted the two programmes to the National Council for Tertiary Education for approval and subsequently for accreditation.
