Ghana’s Covid-19 case count now 6,617

Ghana has recorded 131 new COVID-19 cases in Ghana and the total case count is now 6,617 as at Saturday, May 23, 2020.

These new updates were published by the Ghana Health Service website.

The latest update has seen the Ashanti Region crossing the 1,000 cases mark.

Per the update, 27 more people have recovered from the disease in the country.

89 of the new cases were detected through routine surveillance while 42 was as a result of gha ongoing enhanced contract tracing exercise.

Where were cases recorded
The new cases were recorded in the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Central, Western, Volta and Western north regions.

The Greater Accra contributed the most number of cases 81, with specific areas such as Ga South and Korle Klottey featuring significantly.

The Ashanti region recorded 22 new cases from areas including Obuasi and Kumasi metro.

13 new cases were recorded in the Western Region with all the cases from Preste Huni Valley.

The central region recorded 10 new cases since the last update about 24 hours earlier.

Western North and Volta recorded four and one new cases respectively.

Regional breakdown
So far, 13 of Ghana’s 16 regions have been affected by COVID-19.

Greater Accra Region – 4,780

Ashanti Region – 1,010

Central Region – 297

Western Region – 208

Eastern Region – 106

Western North Region – 61

Volta Region – 45

Northern Region – 34

Oti Region – 26

Upper East Region – 26

Upper West Region – 21

North East Region – 2

Bono Region – 1
