A Ghanaian ICT teacher who drew the Microsoft Word Interface on a blackboard in the absence of a computer to teach his students has arrived in Singapore to attend the Microsoft Education Exchange 2018.

34-year-old Richard Akoto Appiah, known on Facebook as Owura Kwadwo Hottish posted a picture of himself drawing Microsoft’s Word Interface on a blackboard for his students at Betenase M/A Junior High School in Sekyedomase, which went viral.

He captioned the post, “Teaching of ICT in Ghana’s school is very funny”.

The post got the attention of several people including Microsoft Africa who promised to equip him with a device and access to the MEE program and free professional development resources.

According to him, this was not the first time he had used a blackboard drawing to illustrate IT Technology.
His Students, numbering about 100 confirmed that his drawings made the explanation of ICT and launching Microsoft Word very simple for them as there are no computers for them to use.

In an interview on CNN, Richard Akoto Appiah said, “I wanted them to know or see how the window will appear if they were to be behind a computer. Always wanted them to have interest in the subject so I always do my possible best for them.”

It appears Microsoft has begun fulfilling its promise, as Owura Kwadwo is currently in Singapore, judging from his Facebook post.

Microsoft Africa in a Facebook post also expressed their excitement to have Owura Kwadwo attend the Exchange program.

This year’s Microsoft Education Exchange (E2) event is being held in Singapore, from March 13 through March 15, 2018.
