Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has said government will not relent on its efforts to fight illegal mining in the country adding that the fight against galamsey is no respecter of persons.
He was speaking in reaction to claims by the some people that, the $15 billion deal between China and Ghana would affect the fight against galamsey especially at places where Chinese nationals are involved.
According to the Vice President, they will deal with anybody involved in galamsey in accordance with the law of Ghana without fear or favor.
“The Chinese cannot tell us how to enforce our laws as we cannot also tell them to do same. The fight against galamsey is no respecter of persons. Regardless of where one comes from, whether Ghana, Ivory Coast, Uruguay, Ukraine, or China, you would be dealt with the same,”he stated.
The Chinese he indicated are supporting Ghana to deal with the issue and there is no linkage between the fight against galamsey and the support from China.
