The Madina Divisional Police Command have arrested an ex-serviceman believed to be in his 50s who allegedly defrauded some persons under the guise of helping them to buy auctioned vehicles.
According to the Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police Natogmah Aggrey Yakubu, the suspect ex-Sergeant Frimpong Ampomah, who has been confirmed as a National Security operative, had been evading the police following reports of his dubious activities but was finally arrested for allegedly defrauding a man identified as Joy Kweku Boamah to the tune of GH¢12,000.
He said Ampomah had collected the money from his victim on the pretext of selling an auctioned Toyota Corolla car to him but he failed to deliver the car as promised and went into hiding shortly after, while all calls to his mobile contact were not being responded to.
The police mounted surveillance on Ampomah and arrested him at his hideout at Teshie Nungua in the Greater Accra Region where Ampomah admitted during interrogation that he had collected the money on the pretext of selling the auctioned car to the victim but could not give any reason why he failed to deliver the car.
Mr Natogmah said Ampomah had been charged with defrauding by false pretence and urged other persons who had fallen victim to Ampomah’s schemes to contact the Madina Police to assist with investigations.
