The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service says it is on a hunt for a number of persons believe to be a syndicate who are into leaking peoples nude photos and videos.

Last Friday investigators arrested a man they say is the leader of the syndicate after six months of operation.

The CID says the group is engaged in what they describe as ‘sextortion’.

Officials of the Cyber Crime Unit says Ghana recorded the highest case of sextortion during the lockdown period.

This has pushed Minister for Communication Ursula Owusu-Ekuful to explain the measures her outfit has taken against these crimes.

She says her ministry has submitted a draft Cyber Security bill to Cabinet.

The CID believes the syndicate is headed by administrator and owner of the popular pornographic website, Epressleak.com, identified as Anderson Ofosuhene Anim.

According to reports, Anderson has extorted money from both adults and children under the pretext of deleting their nude pictures and videos from the internet.

After collecting those monies from his victims, Anderson, however, leaks their nude pictures on the internet.

Anderson is reported to have conducted his activities at Osino, in the Eastern Region, allegedly operated a porn-related website.

It is believed that Anim had invested the proceeds of crime in houses and vehicles after he had made victims pay between ¢100 and ¢500 through mobile money.

It is also revealed that Anderson has been working along with some people who lure victims for sexual pleasures and film them secretly and later upload them on his site.

Last week, the Cybercrime Unit team proceeded to Mr. Anim’s residence at Osino, where he was found uploading videos on the pornographic website.

All digital devices have been retrieved from his residents and efforts are being made to get hold of all his accomplices who help him to commit those crimes.
