The Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has urged Ghanaians to disregard reports that President Akufo-Addo and Senior Minister Hon Yaw Osafo Marfo have tested positive for coronavirus.

He says there is no truth in that and urged the public to be circumspect of the platforms they source their information from.

This allegation was raised by social media commentator, Kelvin Taylor.

The popular social media commentator disclosed that, although the information is unconfirmed he trusts his source since the person never disappoints with his information.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah said, “There are those who even in these trying times fabricate reports and throw them out to the public, sometimes for political purposes, there are stories going around that the President and some ministers have tested positive, it is not true, we will like to encourage that if you have access to any platform use it to educate the public”.

Minister for Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah also shared some measures that China the epicentre of the Coronavirus have adopted in slowing the rate at which the epidemic is spreading.

“The Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations has given the world great lessons on how they are conquering the coronavirus. The first is early detection, which we in Ghana have also put in a system like that, early reporting, which again we have done in Ghana by introducing phone lines and online platforms, early isolation as you know even the first our first two cases are been treated in isolation. The other very important part of what he shared was mobilizing the general public and that is why we want every Ghanaian to help fight this,”.

Meanwhile, the Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Badu Sarkodie says confirmed cases of coronavirus in Ghana remains 7.
