Salifu Adam Braimah the Savannah Regional Minister has revealed that a foundation has been set up to honour the memory of murdered 90-year-old woman.
The Akua Denteh Foundation will receive donations from the public and be used to support the aged and vulnerable in the society.
Mr Braimah announced this at the commissioning of a GHC5m Water project at Yapei in the Central Gonja District in the Savannah Region.
“Madam Akua Denteh was killed by a very callous priestess and her accomplices in the name of witchcraft. The killing is very emotional and personal to me because this is a dent on the region. We have set up the Akua Denteh Foundation to honour the 90-year-old woman.
President Akufo-Addo has already pledged to contribute to the Foundation.
The contribution by the President is his way of condemning the dastardly and tragic act which took place at Kafaba in the Savannah region.
“I will make an appropriate contribution to the Akua Denteh Foundation to express my own revulsion at the awful, tragic act that has occurred in this Region. It is vital, as the Regional Minister said, that it should not happen again, and we should all work together to ensure that never again do such acts disfigure the face of our nation. I hope that the quick response of the Police will lead to the rapid administration of justice in this unfortunate matter.”
Madam Akua Denteh believed to be in her 90’s was lynched for allegedly being a witch in Kafaba in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah region.
The ordeal of the poor old woman follows allegations by a soothsayer that the old lady was a witch.
