Some COVID-19 patients at an isolation centre attempted to break out of the facility.

The Kumasi South Regional Hospital which is the Ashanti Region’s holding Centre witnessed two attempts as patients continue to pile pressure on health officials to let them out.

The Kumasi Disease Infectious Treatment Centre and the Hospital’s maternity ward are dedicated for care for COVID-19 patients.

Out of about 30 patients admitted since the outbreak, 18 have been discharged. Authorities are confronted with some who secretly want to leave the centre on their blindside.

Dr Angela Drowaa Frimpong, the COVID-19 case management coordinator at the centre explained how two male patients attempted to break out of the centre.

“They tried to use a bed trolley to break the door but they couldn’t come out even though the door was destroyed, sometimes we understand them, being kept somewhere for two weeks and no freedom of movement can be a worry”.

Last month aboute seven Guineans who tested positive for COVID-19 at the Tamale Teaching Hospital in the Northern region, threatened to leave the hotel where they were being quarantined.

They claim they have not contracted the COVID-19 virus as speculated.

The Northern Regional Health Directorate is still on the look out for 21 year old Guninean lady who escape from quarantine facility for Tamale.

Some 53 more people have recovered from the virus, putting the total number of persons who have recovered from COVID-19 in Ghana at 1,951.

But the positive cases have also risen to 6,486 from the 6,269 announced last Wednesday.

This update represents 217 new cases confirmed in the country. According to the latest Ghana Health Service update of May, 22, 2020.

As of Friday, May 22, 2020, the death toll remains at 31.

The total active cases of COVID-19 in Ghana is now at 4,504.

The Greater Accra region is still leading the chart with 4,699 cases, followed by the Ashanti region with 988 cases.

The cases in the Western and Central regions has increased to 195 and 287 respectively.
