Two people were injured when the police fired tear gas and warning shots at the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) premises on Tuesday to maintain law and order.

The two were member of the Ghana National Petroleum Drivers Union who were on a sit down strike to demand better conditions of service.

The warning shots and tear gas were meant to disperse irate members of the Ghana National Petroleum Drivers Union who have refused to heed to the promise by the Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) to resolve their grievances.

Some union executives and members were also arrested.

Armed police personnel and National Security operatives at TOR were hard on some fuel tanker drivers who were preventing their colleague gas tanker drivers from loading products at TOR.

The irate members of the union see the action by the gas tanker drivers as betrayal of trust after they agreed to go on a sit-down strike until their grievances were addressed.

While on the premises of TOR on Tuesday, some gas tanker drivers decided to load product. But this did not go down well with other members of the union and so prevented the gas tanker drivers from loading.

This infuriated the armed police and National Security operatives who pulled guns to prevent the tankers drivers from venting their anger on their colleagues.
