Minister for Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says the government has no intention to use Ghanaian celebrities as ambassadors for Covid-19.

There were reports in the media that the government is planning on using some Ghanaian celebrities as ambassadors to provide more education and create awareness over the dangers of the deadly virus.

At a press briefing in Accra he cleared the air and said they have no intention on towing that path for now.

“Government does not intend to pay celebrities to be ambassadors for Covid-19, during our meeting with the Ghana Journalist Association, NMC I mentioned that we may need people with large following to share our messages but not to hire them. I have seen a lot of online stories that we will hire celebrities that is completely false”

Mr Oppong Nkrumah also urged Ghanaians to disregard reports that President Akufo-Addo and Senior Minister Hon Yaw Osafo Marfo have tested positive for coronavirus.

He says there is no truth in that and urged the public to be circumspect of the platforms they source their information from.

Meanwhile, Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Badu Sarkodie says confirmed cases of coronavirus in Ghana remains 7.
